Welcome! I am Chris Taylor, the man behind Flour Sugar Butter.
By day, I am a scientific researcher, but my nights and weekends are spent as a cookie decorator, home baking enthusiast, and competitive baker.
I have been baking in some form or another since I was a child, but I have been seriously baking on my own for more than 10 years. I bake all manner of sweet treats, including cakes, cookies, pies, and breads. I’ve also been known to mix up a batch or two of homemade candy.
While I can (and do!) bake a wide variety of sweet treats, my passion is decorated cookies. In the past year, I have also begun to learn more about cake decorating, and I have taken several classes on the delicate art of gumpaste-based sugar flowers.
A few times per year, I enter a wide variety of baked treats in baking competitions. In 2011, I entered my first competitive baking contest and earned my first blue ribbon. Since then, I have entered several local and state fair contests, and have earned more than 250 awards, including more than 150 first place blue ribbons. In addition to the competitive local and state agricultural fairs, I have earned 8 awards, including 5 first place blue ribbons, at the American Pie Council National Pie Championships.
In 2015, I was fortunate enough to appear as a finalist on Food Network’s first season of Spring Baking Championship. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
I created this site to share my joys of baking with the wider world. I believe that home bakers can always benefit from learning more about what others do in the kitchen. I look forward to sharing this blog with out and hearing your comments and questions.
